Marvel's 'Damage Control' Will Be A Half-Hour Sitcom On ABC

Following its success with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter, ABC wants to stay in the Marvel TV business.

Rumors have been saying for months that ABC is doing a S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff focusing on characters Mockingbird and Lance Hunter, but now there's word of another Marvel series in the works on the alphabet network.

Damage Control is based on a unique team that made its comic debut in 1989. Damage Control is a company specializing in cleanup and repair of damage caused by superhero-related conflicts. The team was created by writer Dwayne McDuffie with art by Ernie Colón, but the TV version is being developed by Ben Karlin of The Daily Show and Colbert Report fame.

Karlin is writing the pilot script and is producing along with David Miner (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb. No talent has yet been attached to the project.

Damage Control, like many team-based comic books, has featured a revolving door roster over the years. But most commonly associated with the group is founder Anne Marie Hoag; along with her right-hand woman Robin Chapel; Lenny Ballinger, a construction foreman devoted to his crew; account executive and peacemaker John Porter; and Gene Strausser, a technician who had a brief supervillain career but quickly reformed.

The premise itself is fairly comical — but it remains to be seen how Karlin will translate this into a weekly situation comedy. It could tie into other Marvel Studios properties — showing another side of major events like the Battle of New York from The Avengers or the planetary Convergence from Thor: The Dark World.

DC has a similar project already in the works for NBC called Powerless.
