Just a few days ago, a man turned to a Destiny livestream to propose to his girlfriend. Now, another man actually made a video game, letting his girlfriend play through his creation before popping the all-important question.
In a video posted by YouTube user LA Pike, the man, also known as Austin, asks his girlfriend Lauren to fire up his laptop to test out a homebrew game he had been making. It's always meaningful to share your passions and interests with the people closest to you but this playthrough was a bigger deal because it was Austin's way of proposing to Lauren.
The levels were made up of memories the two shared as they were dating. Level 1 brought them back to the first time they really got to know each other at Cincinnati's Bockfest, a street festival to celebrate high gravity beer and goats. Level 2 was their first date, Level 3 was their first road trip together (they went to Munster in Indiana for Dark Lord Day, a festival for high gravity imperial beer - looks like someone likes their beer), Level 4 was a trip to Portland and Level 5 was Gen Con Day.
For Level 6, Lolo, the character in the game, is headed for home. When the level starts playing an 8-bit version of a song from the movie "My Neighbor Totoro," it is undoubtedly clear to Lauren that the game is all about her.
"If you couldn't tell by this game, I'm a mediocre programmer and a horrible artist. But I'd love to be your Player 2," said a screen after Lauren beat the level.
It then cuts to a scene with a mariachi band playing "Nosotros," the song Austin's grandfather serenaded his grandmother with when he proposed to her more than 60 years ago. Austin's avatar finally makes an appearance at the end, followed by a screen that read: "It's dangerous to go alone. Take this!"
He officially proposed at that point, giving her the ring which was just hiding behind his computer the whole time. Lauren said yes, of course!
