Awesome Games Done Quick Marathon Raises Over $1 Million Plus a Wedding Proposal

The charity speedrunning event Awesome Games Done Quick marathon has raised over $1 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Not only that, during the event, a gamer proposed to his girlfriend during his run.

On Sunday morning, Jan. 11, the Twitter account of Games Done Quick revealed that the event had raised over $1.1 million, which includes money from sales of the Humble Bundle and merchandise.

"Thanks @Twitch and @humble for adding those to our tracker at the last minute! It's official, over $1.1 million dollars raised!" tweeted Games Done Quick.

Since then the money raised has climbed to $1.5 million (at the time of writing) with 38879 donors contributing to the cause. By comparison in 2013, the event managed to rake in $1,031,189.

For the unfamiliar, the Awesome Games Done Quick marathon is a semi-annual event and runs for a week for 24 hours each day. The event with speedrunning games raises money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and started on Jan. 4 and ran through Jan. 10.

Speedrunning is basically playing a game as fast as possible. The event is fun as it requires skill and plenty of planning.

The event was streamed on Twitch and saw a surprise and heart-warming wedding proposal from "Jackafur," a gaming speedrunner. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Jackafur proposed to his girlfriend Lillifer (who goes by the handle KittyRawr on Twitch) at the end of Mischief Makers speed run.

"I love you very much. And I'm going to love you forever," said Jackafur. He then got down on one knee adding "So I wanted to ask you if you would marry me."

A surprised Lillifer eventually says yes. The couple embraces and the crowd erupts in glee.

"Ty to all the people who congratulated us & got to see it live. Wouldn't trade this moment for anything," posted Lillifer later on Twitter.
