It's not a trap! Memorable Star Wars character Admiral Ackbar, who first appeared in 1983's Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, will be in the upcoming Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Actor Tim Rose confirmed that he will be reprising his role as the Mon Calamari commander in the next big-screen installment of the saga, in a September interview with the Australian Associated Press.
Admiral Ackbar helped the Rebellion's assault against the Empire during the Battle of Endor. The character is perhaps best known for delivering the line "It's a trap," which helped him find new fans as an Internet meme in recent years.
Rose told the AAP that he is "frustrated" by all of the secrecy surrounding the project because it makes his job more difficult to do.
"Out of the need to be secret, we're not actually able to get everything we need to do our jobs as well as we could," Rose told the AAP about his participation in The Force Awakens. "And as someone who has been doing it for 35 years, I find it very frustrating."
Admiral Ackbar's appearance in The Force Awakens was previously teased in the reel shown during the movie's panel at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego in July. The nearly four-minute clip showed a close-up of what appeared to be the character's head.
Several other characters from the original saga have already been confirmed to appear in The Force Awakens. This includes Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), Chewbacca the Wookiee (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker). However, it's possible that we may even see more beloved Star Wars characters return to the big screen.
"You can expect a smorgasbord of people you love," Rose also told the AAP about The Force Awakens.
Let's just hope that's not a trap.
