Zoom is coming to season two of The CW's The Flash and now we have our first sneak peek at one of this season's new villains.
Of course, Zoom is hardly a "new" villain, and has done a lot of time as a bad guy in DC's comic book universe. In fact, Zoom made such an impression on comic book readers, that IGN listed him as one of the top 100 comic book villains of all time.
The CW announced earlier this month that actor Tony Todd would take on the role of Zoom, although it's likely we'll never see Todd's face during the season, which means that anyone could be under Zoom's mask.
"We have to service the entire audience, both the fans and the non-fans, and I think we've shown up until this point a great deal of respect and reverence for the source material, so that we always feel like we're fulfilling the comic book fans' expectations while also not spoon-feeding them stuff directly from the comics," said The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to Variety. "So the story of Zoom and who and what he is... hopefully comic book fans will be happy because we've come up with a clever way to spin the tale, but that also makes it exciting for the people who aren't as familiar with the comics and are just enjoying the show on its own terms."
In this new promo video for The Flash season 2, we get a sneak peek at Zoom while Jay Garrick tells Barry about how the villain killed a lot of people in his world.
Something that is also interesting about this trailer is the speech that Dr. Stein gives to Cisco. This season will see Cisco discovering his super powers - he's based on the comic character Vibe - which viewers learned about in the season one finale. This trailer shows how Cisco will struggle with those powers now that he knows they exist.
In the season finale, a giant wormhole appeared above Central City after The Flash and team defeated Reverse Flash, aka Eobard Thawne, the man who masqueraded as Dr. Harrison Wells in season one. That wormhole seemed to consume everything near it, so Barry did what superheroes do: he rushed into it in an effort to stop it.
So did Barry save his city? And where exactly did the wormhole take him? The trailers from this season show Barry back in Central City, but is it possible that he's not in his version of Central City anymore?
We'll have answers when The Flash season premiere airs on The CW on October 6.
