Interested in playing a Metal Gear Solid game without Hideo Kojima as director? Well, it appears as if Konami is thinking about going down this route in the future.
In a recent interview, Konami community manager in the UK Graham Day was asked about whether or not the Metal Gear Solid series could go on without Hideo Kojima, and to that, he made the following statement.
"Yeah, (of) course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it's about the characters and I think, yeah..."
Day went on to talk about Konami's collaboration with Platinum Games that brought forth Metal Gear Rising. He claimed that Rising was a good game, and as such, Konami could very well go on and create aMetal Gear Solid title without Kojima should the need arise in the future.
"Look at things like Metal Gear Rising. That was an example of the title being taken in a new direction by separate teams with obviously hands-in from other parties," he said. "And that was in itself a very, very good game as well, and that was obviously led by a completely different team."
Truthfully, we do expect this to happen in the coming years, despite Konami making plans to focus more on the mobile market rather than on AAA titles for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The only game in the triple-A department Konami will be pushing in the years to come, is the Pro Evolution Soccer series.
Fans should definitely keep an eye out for a new Metal Gear Solid title before this console generation comes to an end. We say this because Konami would be foolish to put the series in a box due to its popularity worldwide. The thing is, can they find the right man for the job? Kojima has done an excellent job ever since the first title, so those are some huge shoes to fill.
Still, we have confidence in Konami to make the best choices for Metal Gear Solid, so we're not going to rip our hair out like the rest of the Internet. There are many game directors out there with the skill to do great things with the series, and we do believe fans deserve a fresh face when it comes down to this franchise.
