A new web-slinger is on the block and she's helping Spider-Man fight crime and even saved Oilers hockey team captain from an evil villain. Six-year-old SpiderMable is the newest littlest super hero to win our hearts as she spent the day with her favorite comic book character.
Mable Tooke is SpiderMable's secret real life identity. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia - a cancer of the white blood cells - and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Her day with Spider-Man was organized by the Children's Wish Foundation in Canada to help her realize her dream of meeting the 1960's era hero.
Even the local police station in Edmonton, Alberta got in on SpiderMable's day of crime busting with a video that was uploaded on YouTube of Sgt. Steve Sharp announcing that Oilers captain Andrew Ference had been kidnapped by a villain known only as Mysterio.
SpiderMable was called into the Mayor's office where she was introduced to none other than Spider-Man himself and together, they raced all over the city to solve the caper and save Ference.
"If SpiderMable is out there, and you get this message, come down to the mayor's office and be a part of that team and lead us towards safety and getting our captain back," Sharpe said in the staged news cast especially made by the Children's Wish Foundation and Leven Creative for Mable's special day.
According to reports, SpiderMable and Spider-Man followed the trail from the West Edmonton Mall and ended in a final showdown at the Edmonton Valley Zoo where the super heroes were also joined by Oilers phenom Connor McDavid.
Mable's parents said they were grateful for her to have this day to forget about hospitals and radiation treatment and they could not believe the grand scale of the whole event. SpiderMable even got her very own theme song!
"I don't know if she believes it or not but she's going along with it," her father said.
The Children's Wish Foundation could not be happier to give Mable, and other kids like her, this very special heroic day.
"She's just the spunkiest, most hilarious child I think I personally have ever met," said Elizabeth LoPresti, who spoke on behalf of the foundation.
On being "rescued" by SpiderMable, Ference told reporters that he was relieved to know that Spider-Man (and SpiderMable) were around to help him and when he saw her for the first time, he could "see it in her eyes that she really wanted to help him" so it was a "great day."
