My Little Pony-Inspired Fighting Game In The Works: Bronies Unite!

Them's Fightin' Herds, a fighting game that was inspired by the cartoon series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, is currently seeking funding through an Indiegogo campaign.

The first iteration of the game, named Fighting is Magic, was a 2D fighting game that used characters and designs from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The game was developed by Mane 6, on a not-for-profit basis, with all proceeds to be donated to charities on breast cancer.

However, Hasbro still issued a cease and desist order on the game, putting a hiatus on the project.

It was then that Lauren Faust, the creator of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, contacted Mane 6 after leaving the show at the end of the second season. She offered to create new characters and designs for a fighting game. Lab Zero then offered Mane 6 the chance to use the engine of 2D fighting game Skullgirls on a new game.

The Them's Fightin' Herds project was then created, with Mane 6 having now launched an Indiegogo campaign that looks to raise $436,000 for the development of the game.

The game uses cartoon characters that are four-legged herbivores, with dashes of color and spunky personalities. The similarities with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic can be seen here, but the game itself is a far more intricate title compared to Fighting is Magic.

For the game, Faust created Foenum, which is a world inhabited by four-legged herbivores. The predators that used to threaten the daily life of the Foenicians have long been banished to a magical realm, but these predators are now discovering ways to escape their prison. The prison realm of the predators needs to be sealed off, with the characters of the fighting game battling each other out to become the Key Keeper that will face off with the leader of the predators.

The game features a four-button fighting system with megahit combos, magic spells and super attacks. The game will also have a juggle decay system to prevent unescapable juggle combos and both unranked and ranked matchmaking.

Them's Fightin' Herds will also feature a visual lobby, where gamers can explore Foenum to chat and challenge other players.

At the time of writing, the game has already raised almost $140,000 of its $436,000 goal over the course of three days from over 2,500 backers. According to Mane 6, if the game gets funded, the development cycle of Them's Fightin' Herds will take 18 months.
