Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, esteemed director Guillermo del Toro and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus were apparently not the only big names working together on the canceled Silent Hills horror video game for Konami.
According to tweets by del Toro, Junji Ito, the famous horror manga artist, was also involved in Silent Hills. The revelation, for those that are familiar with Ito's work, just adds more regret into why the game was canceled by Konami.
For those that do not know Ito's work, one example of his horror manga is Uzumaki, which tells the story of citizens that are plagued by a supernatural curse that involves spirals. He also released Tomie, which follows an immortal girl that drives her admirers mad, and Gyo, wherein fish are controlled by a sentient bacteria strain known as "the death stench."
Similar to the Silent Hill franchise, the work of Ito focused on body horror. With del Toro's confirmation that Ito was a part of Silent Hills, gamers would most likely feel the sting of the title's cancellation a bit more.
Kojima had previously released tweets about meetings with Ito, along with frequent praise for his work on his horror manga. However, the involvement of the manga artist in Silent Hills was not confirmed until del Toro's revelation.
After revealing his involvement in the project, Del Toro then posted another tweet that praised Ito and said that he and Kojima are fans of Ito's work.
Silent Hills was unveiled by Kojima through a playable teaser titled P.T. released for the PlayStation 4 last year. Gamers had to play through and complete the difficult and frightening playable demo to learn about Silent Hills.
However, in April, Konami officially canceled Silent Hills despite being a highly anticipated title. There were rumors regarding a rift between Kojima and Konami, which was confirmed when the two parted ways upon the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
