Each year, fantasy football owners buy stock in NFL players who they otherwise might not care for, if it weren't for fantasy gaming.
C.J. Anderson, however, could care less. Don't try telling him that DraftKings spent approximately $24 million in one week of advertising or that fantasy football is a pretty big deal — C.J. Anderson doesn't care.
Despite being selected as high as a first-round pick by many fantasy owners, the struggling Denver Broncos running back doesn't feel anyone's pain. In fact, bench him in your league, for all he cares.
"You can sit me for 17 weeks. It would not bother me one bit. I don't care," Anderson told the Denver Post, when prompted to give his fantasy football advice. "I saw something on ESPN — 'Is C.J. Anderson a fantasy bust?' I wish I could call ESPN and say, 'Tell them to drop me. Every owner can drop me.'"
That doesn't exactly help owners who drafted the third-year rusher, who has accounted for an anemic 56 yards on 24 carries through two games for five combined fantasy points this season. Then again, Anderson doesn't care, especially considering that the Broncos are still 2-0 despite his poor play.
"I don't go to other people's jobs and tell them, 'Hey, you (stink). You're trash,'" Anderson added.
So, how does Anderson handle the online scrutiny?
"I laugh. I just black it out and laugh," Anderson said. "I guess that's kind of the ups and downs of being a top-10 pick and who they expect you to be. I just always say, 'Don't bet on sports. You never know what's going to happen.' That's just my personal opinion, but I couldn't care less about fantasy."
Despite his disregard for fantasy, Anderson will try to break out of his slump on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football during Week 3 action.
