Anything to give fantasy football owners an edge will likely be well received.
That's what IBM's Watson is hoping for, having teamed up with Edge Up Sports—a company that generates analysis for fantasy sports' players—to deliver an app that could help participants win their league.
With Watson's artificial intelligence, IBM told Fast Company that fantasy football players will now be able to unearth the most minute details and information to defeat their opponents in less time than it would take regular fantasy football players not using the app. IBM added in a press release that the Edge Up app "will access and analyze ever-growing volumes and sources of football and player-related data to generate evidence-based recommendations."
With upwards of 33 million fantasy football players per season, the target market speaks for itself. It's more of a matter of the extremes that fantasy players are willing to go through to win, an app being just part of that arsenal.
The Watson-backed app will analyze NFL players' physical and mental state in addition to how their injury histories might factor into their current season. It even delves into how weather affects players and whether they perform better on grass or turf. Details are everything!
Watson, perhaps best known as the computer intelligence system that autonomously defeated the world's best Jeopardy players back in 2011, will definitely be put to the test in football's often complex strategies and matchups.
In addition to the powering from IBM's Watson, Edge Up Sports has also launched a Kickstarter campaign in attempt to raise $35,000 to continue perfecting its app. Contributing to the campaign will give users early access to the app...and possibly a 2015 fantasy football championship and the bragging rights that come with it. Sounds like a touchdown.
