Monday night, September 28, 2015. Mark your calendar for that date, X-Philes.
Fox has a brand new trailer for The X-Files' 2016 return to TV, and it will be aired in two parts. The first will be broadcast during an all-new episode of Gotham at 8:00 P.M. Part two will follow during the newest episode of Minority Report at 9:00 P.M.
Or you could just wait until Tuesday morning, when both parts will invariably be posted online in a single trailer. (If Fox doesn't do it, you know someone else will.)
The X-Files reunites David Duchovny's Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Dana Scully to investigate crimes involving the paranormal. Whether or not they'll return to the FBI is anybody's guess, but having the two of them together again is enough to have longtime fans excited.
The alien conspiracy storyline is expected to be the focus of the first and last episodes of the six-episode season. Both were written and directed by creator Chris Carter. Other writers from the original show wrote and directed the remaining four episodes, including Glen Morgan, James Wong and fan-favorite Darin Morgan.
Mulder and Scully will find that the gang's all here, as many others from the original series are set to return as well. They include Mitch Pileggi's FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, William B. Davis as the evil Cigarette-Smoking Man, Annabeth Gish as Agent Monica Reyes, and all three actors who play the Lone Gunmen. They'll be joined by Joel McHale as Tad O'Malley, a Bill O'Reilly-like TV newsperson, who will clandestinely feed tips to Mulder on paranormal happenings.
The X-Files returns to Fox for a special two-night event, beginning with "My Struggle" on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 10:00 P.M., immediately following the NFC Championship game. After that, it will take up its regular slot at 8:00 P.M. on Mondays.
