Meet The Real Dogmeat In New 'Fallout 4' Behind-The-Scenes Video

Ever since the game's reveal trailer, one character in Fallout 4 has been stealing the show: Dogmeat.

The invincible German Shepard companion character that will aid every Fallout 4 player on their quest has appeared in numerous trailers for the game. Whether it is finding hidden items of aiding in combat, Dogmeat truly looks to be a gamers best friend.

Turns out that Dogmeat is a real dog named River, a dog that just so happens to be the real-world companion of Fallout 4 lead level designer Joel Burgess. Bethesda has released a new behind-the-scenes video showing how the team at Bethesda used River's likeness, movements and voice to bring Dogmeat to life in-game.

Calling it cute would be an understatement. If the Internet loves one thing more than cat videos it's dog videos, especially a dog that plays a leading role in one of the biggest video games of the year. Looks like the team had plenty of run bringing River to the office to meet the team. The video features plenty of footage of in-game Dogmeat as well, showing how River's actions translated to the game.

Thank goodness Dogmeat can't be killed in combat. Bethesda has stated multiple times (like in this new interview with game director Todd Howard) that companion characters, including Dogmeat, are invincible in battle. That being said, it may still be possible for companions to die due to a choice or narrative descision the player makes, though we likely won't know for sure until the game releases. Whatever you do, don't kill the dog! Feel free to drop nukes on human settlements though. That's perfectly fine.

If a cute dog isn't reason enough to watch the behind-the-scenes video, it also features some catchy, 1950s era tunes that will no doubt appear in Fallout 4 for players to enjoy. Check out the real Dogmeat below.

Fallout 4 releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Nov. 10.
