It's a bittersweet day for fans of Persona 5, with one huge setback and one slightly smaller consolation in tow: the hotly anticipated RPG has been delayed until an unspecified date in summer 2016, but game producer and publisher Atlus just dropped a four-minute trailer of the game at the Tokyo Game Show.
While the delay of the latest game in the Persona franchise is a big blow, the captivating trailer almost makes up for it, showing the blending of two distinct worlds — one steeped in abject realism (i.e., Persona 5's noirish cityscape setting), and the other entrenched in the fantastical (the usual dimension-hopping antics, etc). Even though the current trailer hasn't been subtitled for English speakers and readers, the gist comes across clearly.
Thematically, the game is purportedly a critique on the constrictions of modern-day living and social mores in Japan, so the disparity between the urban setting of the game and the dimensions the characters find themselves in will be a definite treat. Add a catapulting cat in the mix for good measure, and while the wait for Persona 5's release will be frustrating for aficionados, it will most likely be worth it.
