It's almost here: the first issue of Marvel's Spider-Gwen #1. Marvel announced in June that Spider-Gwen would get her own dedicated comic book series, and with the title landing in stores next month, the company just released artwork from the first issue.
Marvel also released information about some of the comic book's story, including the backstory of Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker.
"Someone out there has recreated Peter's Lizard formula," Marvel said in a press release."The same formula that mutated him, branded Gwen a fugitive and ultimately cost Peter his life. Gwen WILL NOT let that happen to anyone else — no matter the cost."
The press release also mentions other characters in the series, including NYPD Captain Frank Castle and the "Kingpin of Crime" Matt Murdock, who are both after Gwen. The comic plans on introducing Norman and Harry Osborn into the story, as well.
"The next epic chapter of Gwen Stacy's life is about to begin," Marvel announced. "And you won't want to miss the bombastic debut as she swings into comic shops once more in Spider-Gwen #1 this October!"
Here is the new artwork from Spider-Gwen #1.
Writing for Spider-Gwen #1 is Jason Latour with art by Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi. Marvel also plans on releasing variant covers by Nick Bradshaw, Skottie Young and Bruce Timm, as well as a Kirby monster variant cover by Francesco Francavilla, an action figure variant cover by John Tyler Christopher, a hip hop variant cover by Humberto Ramos and a cosplay variant cover by Kathrine Zan. The comic will also have a blank variant available.
Spider-Gwen is part of Marvel's "All-New All-Different Marvel" campaign, which promises more diversity and new stories within its ongoing comics universe.
Spider-Gwen #1 hits comic book stores and online on October 14.
