Spider-Gwen Returns This Fall With Re-Launched Comic Book Series

When Marvel launched the Spider-Gwen title earlier this year, the superheroine received a lot of attention. She became so popular that cosplayers adapted her style immediately and turned up at conventions in droves.

Now, Spider-Gwen is getting an all-new title – post-Secret Wars storyline – that will launch later this year. The new series, also called Spider-Gwen, brings back the original creative team of Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez and Rico Renzi.

Spider-Gwen is an incarnation of the popular Spider-Man comic character Gwen Stacy. The story will take place on Earth-65, an alternate Earth introduced during Marvel's Spider-Verse event. In that world, the spider bites Gwen instead of Peter Parker — resulting in her becoming the superhero instead.

"This book has defied all expectations, mine included, and has continued to thrive and grow," said series writer Jason Latour in a Marvel press statement.

"I can't tell you how precious of an experience that makes it. Re-launching and being put out there on the front lines as a tent pole kind of title really is a tremendous opportunity to open our doors to everyone again."

The new Spider-Gwen serves as a jumping point for fans new to this story, but it also offers a lot for existing fans of the character. Marvel promises that we'll see new insight into Gwen and Peter's history. Marvel also promises that we'll finally see Earth-65's version of Norman and Harry Osborn.

"Someone out there has recreated Peter Parker's Lizard formula," reads an official Marvel synopsis of the new series.

"The same formula that ultimately cost him his life and branded Gwen a fugitive. And she won't let it happen again! But with NYPD Captain Frank Castle and the Kingpin of Crime Matt Murdock both on her tail, that'll prove easier said than done."

The new Spider-Gwen is one of 60 new Marvel comics being launched after Secret Wars.

In addition to the re-launch of her series, Spider-Gwen will soon become a playable character in Marvel's mobile game Contest of Champions.

Expect both the new comic and the video game addition to land sometime this fall.
