Street Fighter 5’s Newest Character Is Rashid, A Middle Eastern Who Can Unleash Tornadoes At His Enemies

Rashid from the Middle East is the latest addition to the cast of Street Fighter V. Although not a lot of details were revealed, it appears he has been bestowed the ability to control the wind and use it against his enemies.

Capcom's Yoshinoro Ono, producer of Street Fighter V, introduced Rashid at Games1V, a video game trade show currently taking place in Dubai. The character calls himself Rashied "of the Turbulent Wind," which clearly points to what unique powers and abilities he has.

Images posted on NeoGAF by user Neoxon shows Rashid donning a keffiyeh, the traditional Middle Eastern headwear for men, but he also wears a scouter and carries what seems to be a jetpack, which could very well be where his power over the wind comes from.

In a rather shaky video posted by YouTube user rakanGAGA, who apparently was present at Games1V, Rashid proves to be a deft fighter, diving off from walls and dropping kicks at his enemies while seemingly being supported by the wind. He can also conjure small tornadoes and launch them at his enemies, similar to Cody in Street Fighter IV. His Critical Art is creating larger tornadoes and trapping his enemies above the tornado so he can deliver the final blow.

Rashid is the second new character announced after the feral Necalli. Earlier rumors have pointed to a character from the Middle East, and Capcom's latest announcement adds more weight to other rumors that the other two characters will be an Indian fighter named Zen and a Brazilian character called Laura. Presumably, the decision to include characters of various descent is to help attract gamers from other parts of the globe.

Street Fighter V plans to have a roster of 16 characters at launch, four of them all-new characters that have not been introduced in earlier iterations of the game, while the rest will be veterans, including Ryu, Chun-Li and Nash, among others. Two of the four new characters have already been revealed, while Capcom has yet to unveil who the other two will be.

The game is scheduled for release in March 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
