Destiny 2.0 is finally here. It's the biggest update to the game we've seen yet — all in preparation for the release of The Taken King on September 15. If you were wanting to check out all the changes coming to the game Tuesday, September 8, you might want to start your download.
The Destiny 2.0 update is a whopping 17-GB download. Much of that 17 GB will likely be all the new audio files for the game's Ghost companion. Gone is Peter Dinklage as the voice of the character, replaced by veteran game actor Nolan North.
But that's not the only change coming in 2.0. We've already broken down the numerous big changes like the elimination of Light level, increased vault space and redone quest structure, but Bungie's extensive 2.0 patch notes reveal a number of other changes coming to Destiny in this update as well.
Weapons are being dramatically readjusted, for example. Auto Rifles are making a bit of a comeback, with base damage across all Auto Rifles going up while stability is going slightly down. Auto Rifles will also do 30 percent more damage to A.I. opponents. Scout Rifles and Pusle Rifles are getting a number of improvements, such as increased ammo magazines and higher damage against A.I. opponents. Shotguns and Hand Cannons are seeing a number of nerfs, so expect the Crucible landscape to change dramatically over the next couple of weeks.
Changes are coming to a number of specific exotic items, like the wildly popular Icebreaker Sniper Rifle. Starting Wednesday, players can begin earning a reputation with the Gunsmith by testing out his experimental weapons.
Overhauls to the game's strikes are also coming in the latest patch. Players going afk during a strike has long been a problem — one that Bungie is now addressing by requiring players to participate in the Strike's final boss in order to be eligible for end-of-activity loot. Bonus loot and reputation can now also be earned for players who recycle back into the Strike playlist instead of returning to orbit.
The number of changes are far too extensive to list them all here, but be sure to head over to Bungie's site for the full rundown. You can learn more about the game's upcoming The Taken King expansion here.
