In The Taken King, the gang's all here. A brand new cinematic trailer, made entirely of pre-rendered cutscenes has just arrived, and it looks great. Of course, looks can be deceiving when it comes to Destiny's sometimes-incomprehensible storytelling, but this seems awfully promising.
Most of Destiny's major characters are leaders and informants, such as the Vanguard leaders Cayde-6 (voiced by geek icon Nathan Fillion), Ikora Rey (Fillion's Firefly costar Gina Torres) and Commander Zavala (Fringe's Lance Reddick), Queen Mara Sov of the Reef (Kirsten Potter) and others. But for the most part, they haven't had anything new to say since the game was released a year ago.
The Taken King is the next major chapter of Destiny's story, and as if to underscore its importance, Bungie brought all of them back to record new dialogue for the new DLC. Also returning is Eris Morn (Morla Gorrondona) from the first DLC episode, The Dark Below, who appears to play a big part in this story as an advisor to the Guardian leadership. You'll also hear Oryx himself speak.
In The Taken King, the bloodthirsty "god" of the Hive, Oryx, comes to our solar system seeking revenge for the death of his son Crota. To accomplish this, he builds an army using the power of the mysterious Darkness to bring members of all four alien races – Fallen, Hive, Vex, Cabal – under his thrall. The trailer even shows him replicating soldiers from his army of "Taken" at will.
Check out the cinematic trailer below, and see if you agree with us that big developments could be ahead for all of Destiny's major players.
Destiny: The Taken King drops on September 15, 2015.
