'Destiny' 2.0 Goes Live On Sept. 8, Here Is What You Need To Know

Big changes are coming to Destiny, and you won't even had to buy the game's third expansion to experience them.

In its latest blog post, Bungie has announced that all the "quality of life" improvements to the game will be coming next week — on Tuesday, September 8. These changes are all the quality-of-life improvements that fans have been patiently waiting for, almost since the game's original release a year ago. There will also be a preview of the new content in store for those who do decide to pick up Destiny's The Taken King expansion.

Perhaps the most radical change is the elimination of Light levels. Players can now level to the current cap of 34 without having to worry about raiding or leveling up gear. Light Level is now an indication of the quality of your gear, rather than your primary means of continuing to make progress in the world of Destiny.

All of the "collections" that Bungie previously detailed during one of its livestreams will also be arriving in the Tower on September 8. These include terminals to house your collection of shaders, ships and emblems — all easily accessible without clogging up inventory space. Players can also try out the new exotic blueprint system. If you accidentally deleted an exotic weapon or regret dismantling a piece of armor, you can now remake the item without having to go raiding or performing an exotic bounty.

Speaking of exotic bounties, something interesting will happen to those who have one (or several) in their inventory. Come September 8, all exotic weapon bounties will automatically complete and be ready to cash in. All non-exotic bounties will be deleted. Players will also find they can now hold up to 16 bounties.

Quests have been restructured with a brand-new interface that makes keeping track of the game's various storylines much easier.

September 8 will also mark the arrival of a Crucible Preview event. From September 8 to 14, players will be able to experience The Taken King's new game modes and multiplayer maps, free of charge.

Bungie promises a full, in-depth list of patch notes will be coming next week. Considering picking up The Taken King? Be sure to read up on all the major changes to the game you need to know about.
