The LG G3 is enjoying great success in its home country of South Korea, hitting a sales mark of over 100,000 units just five days after the smartphone's exclusive May 28 release in the country.
The early sales figures of the G3 is comparatively better than that of rival Samsung's Galaxy S5 on its first week of release, showing the brand's popularity and strength in South Korea.
While Samsung reported sales figures in the millions during the Galaxy S5's first week, it was because the smartphone was released simultaneously all over the world in 100 countries. In South Korea alone, the Galaxy S5 sold only 7,000 to 8,000 units in its first week.
The LG G3 is selling 25,000 to 30,000 units per day on average on its way to its 100,000-unit record, which is much more than the 10,000-unit daily average of the smartphone's predecessor LG G2 on its first week. There are only some subtle design changes for the G3 compared to the G2, including redesigned back buttons.
Aggressive marketing is said to be a factor in the huge sales of LG's latest flagship. The company previously was not able to expand its marketing as its mobile phone business was sluggish in terms of profit, but with that division posting profits for the past two years, LG has been able to increase its marketing efforts of its smartphones as equals of that of Apple's and Samsung's.
The specifications of the G3 most probably has something to do with its booming sales too. The smartphone boasts of a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with RAM of 3GB and internal memory of 32GB. The G3 also has a 5.5-inch Quad HD display of 2560 x 1440 pixels with a pixel density of 538 ppi, along with a 13MP camera with laser autofocus that allows users to take pictures as fast as they can tap the phone's face. The Android-based smartphone also comes with the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
"The smartest innovation in a fast-evolving smartphone market is creating harmony between advanced technology and a simplified user experience," says LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company President and CEO Dr. Jong-seok Park. "LG G3 is the result of our effort to actualize that idea into a tangible product. And we are extremely pleased with the result."
The G3 will face its next test in popularity once the smartphone hits the international markets. It is expected to arrive on U.S. shores soon, with Verizon looking to start selling the G3 by the end of June and T-Mobile and AT&T looking to follow suit not much later during the summer.
