There's a rumor going around that DC You could be on its way out, and if such is the case, it would be a real shame. Since the publisher launched its new idea back in June, we have to say that things have been a lot better than the New 52.
One would believe that DC You with all the cool new stories would have propelled the publisher to the top, but such is not the case. From what we are hearing, ever since the launch of DC You, sales have been very low, which means the publisher will have no choice but to revert to some of the classic stories.
This is a shame, and we hope it doesn't happen. But knowing the world of comic book readers, we might very well have to watch as several of the DC You's top stories go down the drain.
We've seen persons saying that several comic book store owners have claimed that since June, they have not been selling a lot of DC Comics. The regulars such as Batman and Superman are still flying off the shelves, but the newer stories are barley moving.
We're hearing that books like Black Canary, Midnighter, and Bizarro are not doing well at retail. We can understand why Black Canary is suffering because those books are not that good, but the others are great, especially Midnighter if you can block out the constant sexual actions.
DC You also became more diverse. Now, I'm no big fan of this huge diversity push, but DC You did it without changing popular white characters to black or black characters to white for an easy fix. Marvel did this with Spider-Man by creating Miles Morales.
At the end of the day, the DC You is the best of DC Comics in a very long time, and we can only hope it continues. If not, then at least continue with some of the stories and release them online only.
Maybe the DC Extended Universe is what the comic books need to gain more sales.
