Minecraft is officially getting a Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials multiplayer mod that pits gamers against one another in a brand new game mod to test if they can survive the evils of The Scorch.
In The Scorch Trials mod, gamers are taken beyond The Maze and into The Scorch, where they will have to compete with others to find and capture green banners for points. There will also be a host of special objects strewn around The Scorch to help them achieve their mission, and the first player who goes from 1 to 200 points wins.
Gamers can download the new The Scorch Trials mod from the official mod website, along with the official Minecrafted player skins for Thomas and the rest of the Gladers, including Teresa, Minho, Brenda, Newt and Harriet. They can use these skins to make their Minecraft avatar look like one of the characters from the upcoming film, instead of using their regular avatar Steve, simply by uploading the skin of their choice to their profile on www.minecraft.net. The skin will then be applied to their avatar when they log in to Minecraft.
The mod makers have also released the new mod to the public to let them run it on their servers. The download includes Craftbukkit 1.7.9 to ensure that their Minecraft profile is set to that version.
The new mod is part of a new partnership struck between Minecraft-maker Mojang and 20th Century Fox, which is promoting its upcoming film Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the sequel to The Maze Runner and is based on the second book in James Dashner's The Maze Runner trilogy. As part of the partnership, 20th Century Fox has also released several posters exclusively to IGN featuring the Gladers in their multi-player skins as pictured at the bottom of this article.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is set to hit theaters on Sept. 18. It stars Dylan O' Brien as the main character Thomas and his costars Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Kaya Scodelario and Patricia Clarkson and supporting cast members Rosa Salazar, Lili Taylor, Jacob Lofland, Aidan Gillen, Giancarlo Esposito and Barry Pepper. In June, 20th Century Fox debuted a Minecraft trailer for the movie, hoping to get more eyeballs in a cross-promotional attempt for the movie.
