Samsung is widely expected to launch a high-end version of the Galaxy S5 in the coming weeks. A new image the Galaxy F has leaked showing off its QHD display and brushed metal body.
There were rumors prior to the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in February that claimed the company was planning to announce two versions of its flagship Galaxy S5 in a similar move to Apple's iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s launch. Much like Apple's more premium iPhone 5s, the high-end 'Galaxy S5 Prime' or Galaxy F was believed to ship with premium parts like a metal case and very high resolution 2560 x 1440 display. The 'Galaxy S5 Standard' was said to match Apple's iPhone 5c, complete with a plastic case, but beat it in many areas, like a 5.1-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display and 16-megapixel camera.
When Samsung introduced the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress in February, only one Galaxy S5 model was introduced and it wasn't the Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F many were hoping for. The smartphone appeared to match the specs of the 'Galaxy S5 Standard.' Since the Samsung Galaxy S5's release, there have been persistent rumors that the smartphone hasn't sold as well as the company expected and it reportedly fired its mobile design chief in May over the poor response.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has had to compete with the all-aluminum and premium feel of the HTC One M8 and the just announced LG G3, which offers something the current Galaxy S5 doesn't, a 2560 x 1440 QHD display. A new leaked image adds more fuel to the fire of an impending Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F launch.
The always-reliable evleaks has posted the above image and a description of “Another alleged image of the supposed Samsung Galaxy F.” The smartphone in the image appears to match some of the reported details of the Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F. The handset has a very similar design to the plastic Galaxy S5, but has a brushed metal rear case along with the heart rate sensor below its camera. There’s no way to tell if that’s a QHD display, but considering LG offers it on the G3, Samsung won’t want to let LG have that exclusivity for too long.
The tipster has a great track record when it comes to leaking information and there have been reports that Samsung is preparing to announce the Galaxy S5 Prime sometime in June. We’ll be following this for you and will keep you updated.
