High-end Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime with metal body and 2560 x 1440 display release date in June?

A new report claims that Samsung is planning on releasing its rumored Galaxy S5 Prime with metal body and 2560 x 1440 display in June.

When Samsung launched its first wearable, the Galaxy Gear last September, the company faced harsh criticism for releasing a half-baked smartwatch. The device was plagued with problems from its price, design, and battery, which hardly made it through a day before being need to be recharged. The smartwatch was panned by reviewers and customers and had an extremely high return rate.

Samsung didn't waste any time and announced the Gear 2 smartwatch less than five months after the Galaxy Gear was released. The company swapped out Android for its Tizen OS, improved its battery to last up to three days depending on usage and added some tweaks to its design. It was Samsung's second attempt at trying to beat Apple and Google in the smartwatch race. The Gear 2 launched alongside the current flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5.

Prior to the company announcing the Galaxy S5, it was widely believed that Samsung was going to launch two Galaxy S5 smartphones; a Galaxy S5 'Prime' and Galaxy S5 'Standard'. The Galaxy S5 Prime was said to be a high-end device built with premium materials like a metal case and a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 display. The Galaxy S5 Standard was believed to use a plastic case and feature a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. The 'Standard' pretty much matches the current Galaxy S5 in specs and design.

A new report claims that Samsung will release its rumored premium Galaxy S5 Prime in June, less than two months after it began selling the Galaxy S5. If this report is true, Samsung could face major backlash from current Galaxy S5 owners who would have preferred to purchase the Galaxy S5 Prime. Samsung's CEO JK Shin didn't help matters and publicly denied that the company was working on a premium Galaxy S5 with a metal body, likely to not hurt sales of the current Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is expected to feature a 5.2-inch QHD 2560 x 1440, which is the same resolution of LG's upcoming LG G3. The smartphone will use a Samsung Exynos 5430 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor depending on region and 3 GB of RAM instead of the 2 GB in the Galaxy S5. It will packing in a 16-megapixel rear camera that will use Samsung's Isocell technology and ship with Android 4.4.3 KitKat out of the box.

We'll keep you posted on all Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime news as it happens.
