The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime has just been spotted on an Indian import site. The Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G906S), which is the South Korea variant's name, is being tested in India.
Many smartphone fans were hoping Samsung would ditch its infamous cheap feeling plastic case for a metal jacket like Apple's iPhone 5s and HTC One M8. The Galaxy S5 was rumored to come in two different models; the 'Prime' and 'Standard'. The Galaxy S5 Prime was said to be the company's high-end and premium smartphone, which would pack in a 2560 x 1440 quad-HD display and would be wrapped in a metal case. The Galaxy S5 Standard would use a plastic shell and have a lower resolution display of 1920 x 1080. When Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S5 it announced it as the Galaxy S5 Standard.
It will be interesting to see how Samsung handles possible consumer backlash from smartphone owners who will see their smartphone go from being the company's flagship to being replaced a few months later by a device most of them had been hoping for initially. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is what the Galaxy S5 should have been.
According to Indian import site, Zauba, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G9065) has entered the county for "testing and evaluation." The listing has a few things that seem to be typos. It lists the smartphone as costing around $360, which is extremely low for a smartphone with its specs and it also lists the device as having a 5.1-inch display, which doesn't match all previous reports and images that show it will have the same 5.1-inch size as the Galaxy S5.
The Galaxy S5 Prime is going to be a powerhouse with its QHD display coupled with a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.
There has been a ton of speculation the Galaxy S5 has not been the usual homerun hit Samsung was expecting, and which it enjoyed with earlier devices. Samsung recently replaced its mobile design leader with many reports claiming it was due to the tepid response of the Galaxy S5. We'll keep you updated on the Galaxy S5 Prime as more details become available.
