AT&T is set to offer a new Galaxy S5 to its customers in the form of the more tough and rugged Galaxy S5 Active. A press image with the carrier's branding has just leaked.
Samsung isn't wasting any time in using the Galaxy S5 name to its advantage. When the company announced its flagship Galaxy S5 in February, it was assumed that since it was both waterproof and dust-resistant, there would be no need for a follow up to last year's Galaxy S4 Active. It's never safe to assume and Samsung isn't shy about squeezing as much as it possibly can in its bid to offer a smartphone for everyone.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has appeared in a video and now it's appearing in the form of an AT&T press image. AT&T was the exclusive carrier for last year's Galaxy S4 Active and it's getting ready to offer the Galaxy S5 Active just in time for the summer.
The leaked video also showed off an AT&T Galaxy S5 Active and revealed many of its specs, including the same 5.1-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display used in the Galaxy S5. The body of the S5 Active is reinforced with metal sides and a tougher plastic shell. It will reportedly be able to handle wet conditions even better than the Galaxy S5 and has swapped out its plastic fingerprint enabled home button for a sturdier three button affair for apps, home and back.
The Galaxy S5 Active also keeps the Galaxy S5's built in heart rate monitor, which is located below the smartphone's impressive 16-megapixel camera, which has received an upgrade by including OIS. Other specs include a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.
There's no word on when we can expect AT&T and Samsung to make things official, but the company has been sticking to a routine on when it releases specific smartphone models. We should be hearing something very soon.
