Apple could unveil its next-generation iPhone 6s at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, where it unveiled the Apple II a lifetime ago.
The company is expected to take the wraps off its latest iPhones in September, but it has yet to make an official announcement with specific dates and the venue for the event. New bits of information, however, suggest that the iPhone 6s could make its debut at the same venue where Steve Jobs introduced the Apple II.
Hoodline published an intriguing report noting that the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium has been reserved for a "private event" from Sept. 4 to 13. That's more than a week and it would give Apple plenty of time to set up product demos, install banners and make other such preparations for a big unveiling.
According to the report, the venue is allegedly hired for a trade show, or at least that's the official story. However, Hoodline points out that the purported show coincides with the Labor Day holiday, which makes it a bit odd.
"Not only do those dates span the Labor Day holiday, which would be unusual for a trade show, but we could find no other evidence of a trade show, conference, convention, or other event planned for the venue during those dates," Hoodline explained.
In recent years, Apple opted for the Yerba Buena Center and the Flint Center to host its special launch events, but those venues can only welcome a couple of thousand attendees.
The upcoming Apple launch event is expected to be more substantial, with several product launches. In addition to the much-touted iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple is also rumored to unveil a new iPhone 6c, new iPads, as well as a new Apple TV. If this is the case, the 7000-seat Bill Graham Civic Auditorium would indeed be a more suitable venue, as it can hold far larger crowds.
Apple first used this venue back in April 1977 for the unveiling of its Apple II. At the time, the venue was called the San Francisco Civic Auditorium. It remains to be seen whether Apple will indeed take the wraps off its new-generation iDevices at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, but it does seem like a likely possibility. The company typically announces its big launch events 10 - 12 days in advance, so we should soon know more about it straight from the source.
