CBS is debuting its new take on Supergirl this fall, and the hype machine is kicking into high gear. A new trailer has been released highlighting the show's action and adventure, which is wrapped around a dramatic, emotional core.
The new series offers a version of the character specifically tailored for modern audiences. 24-year-old Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) concealed her true heritage as Kryptonian survivor Kara Zor-El her entire life. But when someone close to her is endangered, she pulls off some superheroics and becomes a media sensation.
Embracing her identity, she becomes Supergirl, reveling in her thrilling abilities as she helps a covert government organization battle alien threats to the planet. At the same time, she tries to hold onto her human relationships and her job working for media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).
Cat Grant isn't the only name DC Comics fans will recognize on the show. Pulitzer-winning photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) joins Grant's agency CatCo, having just been hired away from the Daily Planet. Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) heads up the government organization fighting alien threats. In the comics, he becomes the conflicted villain known as the Cyborg Superman. She doesn't appear in the pilot, but Lois Lane's sister Lucy (Jenna Dewan Tatum) will be part of the show, and the malevolent and powerful Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli) is in the mix as well.
Supergirl (the TV show, that is) was created by Greg Berlanti, who knows a thing or two about making comic book superheroes work on the small screen. He's the mind behind The CW's hit shows Arrow, The Flash, and the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow.
Here's the new Supergirl trailer. It consists of mostly footage we've seen before, but there's some new stuff in there, too.
Supergirl premieres October 26, 2015 on CBS.
