Have you ever needed to respond to a text message while holding an umbrella? If you have a smaller smartphone, that might not be such a big problem, but phablet owners will know the pain of not being able to reach some of the letters with one hand.
For those phablet owners, there is now a way to text while holding an umbrella. It's called a Phonebrella, and it essentially uses a round, C-shaped handle that allows the umbrella to sit on the user's wrist while they use their smartphone.
The Phonebrella itself was designed by KT, South Korea's second-largest mobile carrier. It's certainly not a highly technical device. In fact, it's so simple it's a wonder that it took so long for someone to come up with it. The product even won a Red Dot Design Award for the "Best of the Best" product design.
Of course, it's important to mention that the design is currently just a concept. In a video produced by KT, the Phonebrella can be seen in five different colors, however, it's not known if or when it will ever be produced, or if it is produced, how much it will cost.
In the video, we see a man standing with a normal umbrella, clearly struggling with that umbrella. A woman then gently takes the umbrella out of his hand, replacing it with a Phonebrella. She then decides to stay under the Phonebrella with the man as he types on his smartphone.
Of course, while this design is great, the real question is whether or not people are so in need of being always connected to their phone that they need a specialized umbrella. Perhaps if the user is that intent on being connected, it's time they consider buying a smartwatch to deliver notifications that can be seen and replied to at a glance.
