Samsung is now selling its new fast wireless charging pad for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ for a quite steep price of $69.99.
Most of us are familiar with wireless charging and fast charging as two separate technologies, but the new wireless charger being offered by Samsung claims to offer both fast and wireless charging using one device, which could perhaps explain the $70 price tag.
Samsung touts its new fast wireless charging pad as the future of charging, and it claims to offer up to 1.4 times faster charging times than regular wireless chargers. The Galaxy Note 5, for instance, which has a 3,000mAh battery, can reach 100 percent charge in just under two hours using this new charger.
"Available in black sapphire or white, the new wireless charging pad allows you to charge your Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6 Edge+ device up to 1.4 times faster than standard wireless charging pads, reducing total charging time from 0-100 percent by up to 50 minutes," Samsung says in its product description of the charger.
However, interested buyers must keep in mind that fast wireless charging is only currently available for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge also have built-in support for wireless charging, so this device will definitely work for this pair of smartphones but without fast charging.
Samsung says the new charger has support for other smartphones with support for the Qi standard of wireless charging, so customers who don't have any of the four Samsung products but have Qi-enabled devices can still avail of this wireless charger. However, fast charging will not be supported in these smartphones.
Unless you are planning to buy one of Samsung's newest phablets or you already have one, it raises the question about who will want to buy this $70 fast wireless charger with full support for only two of the most expensive smartphones on the market. Given that there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that are being offered for as low as $15 on Amazon, smart buyers will do well to just keep their $70 and do their shopping elsewhere.
