Sony has officially announced the Xperia M5 as its newest flagship device along with the Xperia C5 Ultra. Belonging to the "super mid-range" of handsets, the Xperia M5 is designed to deliver optimum performance, with its camera, battery and waterproof attributes.
The Xperia M5 is touted as the successor to the Xperia M4 Aqua. It features a 5-inch 1080p display with 1920 by 1080 pixels, 3GB RAM, MediaTek Helio X10 64-bit Octa-core chip, 16GB internal storage, microSD slot and Android 5.0.
The new handset boasts an impressive 21.5MP main camera perfect for taking selfies.
"Xperia M5 makes no compromises, especially with the camera," said Sony on the handset's official site. "With 21.5 megapixels and ISO 3200, life has never looked clearer."
"A great selfie needs two things: a brilliant front camera and you. With 13 megapixels, autofocus and a filter to smooth the look of your skin in photos, Xperia M5 is the selfie-cam to be seen with," it added.
Other notable camera features include Hybrid Autofocus, 5 x Clear Image Zoom, 4K video capture and Auto Scene Recognition. The latter is best for taking various kinds of photos, from nighttime views to gourmet shots.
The camera recognizes up to 52 scenes and has the capacity to automatically adjust its settings, including HDR. Since it also captures videos in 4K, Sony's new Xperia M5 easily mirrors a real compact digital camera in terms of image quality and image capturing performance.
The device also boasts a 2,600mAh battery that promises to deliver two days of continued use.
"We crafted the Xperia M5 to be as efficient as possible in every detail, and then teamed it with a battery that's incredibly powerful," said Sony. "The result is a 4G smartphone that delivers up to two days of battery life. So when you need to power through, whether it's an all-night party, a marathon TV-watching session or a long weekend away, the Xperia M5 will power through with you."
With such a powerful battery, the Xperia M5 is capable of playing a full HD video for up to eight hours or music for up to 63 hours, and supporting talk time for up to 12 hours. It also has the added features of extended standby, extended usage and ultra STAMINA mode.
Lastly, the Xperia M5 brings the familiar waterproof design that Sony's smartphones have been known for worldwide.
Sony says the Xperia M5 will soon be available in emerging markets and will offer a trio of color options such as white, black and gold. Pricing details are yet unknown although a previous report in Tech Times speculated it to fall around the $400 price point.
