"Wolfenstein: The New Order" is turning out to be a fire hit after several reviews classed it as fresh. It's the sequel to "Wolfenstein," a game that was released back in 2009 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Moreover, the game appears to be a better experience when compared with its predecessor.
Not everyone knows how far the Wolfenstein franchise has come. The first game, "Wolfenstein 3D," was released back in 1992 for the PC, and is widely viewed as one of the games that helped to popularize the first-person shooter genre. Of course, the game has lost its appeal over the years, but with "The New Order," this franchise has its first opportunity in a long time to rise from the ashes.
The game has been getting great reviews from the press, with the majority praising the title for not going into the supernatural. The previous title had supernatural Nazis; it was a neat idea, but it took away the realism from the title. Well, we all enjoy shooting Nazis in the face, but no ones like to go up against a Nazi with powers, nope.
The game takes place in 1960s Europe, although it starts with World War II drawing to a close. However, things are not aligned with the history books. This time around, the Nazis are winning, and their technology far outweighs everyone else. Ever heard of robot dogs? The Nazis have already done this; you're too late.
According to CVG, "Wolfenstein: The New Order" has excellent level design, something that is lacking in several first-person shooters of late.
"Excellent level design means that while you're up against it when using stealth, you're gifted with options," CVG said.
Unfortunately, not every reviewer sees "Wolfenstein: The New Order" as this awesome video game everyone needs to play. Eurogamer believes the game is buggy and should be seen as just a decent shooter, at best.
"'Wolfenstein: The New Order' has all sorts of war stories it wants to share with you and it knows how it wants you to feel, but it's not convincing. Its stories are more sensational than poignant. It's a decent shooter with a good few impressive moments, but it can be buggy and it doesn't offer much you can't find elsewhere, with little to tempt you back when it's over," Eurogamer said.
At the end of the day, however, the overall consensus is that "Wolfenstein: The New Order" is certified fresh and filled with Nazis to kill. Go forth into this world, set Nazis ablaze, and smile while doing it.
