iWork for iCloud recently received an upgrade that increased the number of people that can collaborate on a single document and the size limit of files.
The updates have increased the number of collaborators on a document to 100 people from the previous limit of 50 people, and the file size limit to 1GB from the previous limit of 200MB.
These are just two of the more prominent updates as Apple made improvements on the browser-based versions of the Pages, Numbers and Keynote applications, which are collectively known as iWork for iCloud. The changes brought about by the updates can be seen through an animated splash page that greets users who log on to iCloud.com and open any of the three applications.
There are other updates that affect all three applications. Users now have the ability to create 2D and interactive charts. There are also more options for colors and fonts, with almost 200 new fonts available. Users can also begin adding high resolution images to their work of up to a size of 10MB per image.
Each of the applications gets upgrades for their respective functionalities as well. Keynote users can now hide and show slide numbers during their presentations. Numbers users can now use alternating colors for table rows to make it easier to read through their data. Pages users can now utilize object layering, as well as insert and edit inline tables.
In addition, pages received support for exporting files as ePub documents and Numbers received support for exporting spreadsheets in CSV (comma-separated value) format. These upgrades will make it simpler for users to transfer documents from iWork into other programs without needing a Mac or iOS device to format the file.
Apple has released several updates to its iWork for iCloud collection since the software was launched last year. The free service gives users the ability to work on documents online, which they can then save, sync and share to other iCloud users through the Internet browser on their Mac, Windows PC or iOS device.
The Web versions of the iWork applications remain in beta, and are the last to receive many of the features being introduced. However, Apple has consistency in rolling out updates to improve iWork for iCloud while maintaining compatibility with both the Mac and iOS versions of the software.
iWork for iCloud can be accessed using the user's personal Apple ID through Apple's iCloud.com website.
