Motorola Droid 2015 Might Feature Wireless Charging

Motorola recently unveiled three devices that are part of the company's 2015 lineup. Namely, these three smartphones are the Moto X Style, which will be called the Pure Edition once it is released in the United States, its budget version the Moto X Play, and the Moto G 2015.

Earlier in the week, however, prolific leaker @evleaks said that there is a Motorola DROID Maxx II and a Motorola DROID Turbo 2 in the works, which could mean that there are other smartphones that the company is planning to launch within the year.

In addition to these rumored device names, HelloMotoHK has revealed information about a device that it is calling the DROID 2015, and has posted images of the said smartphone online.

The uploaded pictures total three in number. The first image shows the exterior of the back of the device, revealing a textured black back cover that is a characteristic of previous DROID devices of Motorola. The second and third images are more interesting though, as it seems the DROID 2015 will allow for a wireless charging feature.

The second image shows the main chassis of the DROID 2015 without the back cover attached, revealing a copper coil that will serve as a wireless charging receiver, which will most likely be of the Qi standard.

The third image shows the interior of the DROID 2015's back cover, revealing certain areas that are light gray and other areas that are dark gray. The lighter parts of the inside of the back cover are the areas where there is no adhesive, while the darker parts are where the adhesive to attach it to the smartphone will be placed. It can be assumed that the parts of the back cover with adhesive are protecting the more sensitive components of the device.

The Moto X Play will not be released in the United States, but the resemblance of the DROID 2015 and the budget smartphone due to the similar finish of the back cover could mean that the DROID 2015 is the version of the Moto X Play that will be released in the United States.

Previous DROID smartphones, however, have been exclusive for customers under the service of Verizon. The DROID Turbo, despite being a Verizon exclusive, was also released in other countries as the renamed Moto Maxx though, which could mean that the DROID 2015 is also the device that @evleaks is referring to.
