It wasn't the most eagerly anticipated of today's Motorola debuts, nor is it the star of the show, but Motorola took some time at today's internationally simulcast event to talk up the latest version of its workhorse handset, the Moto G. The big takeaway here is, once again, price.
This time out, Motorola's pricing the handset at around a third the cost of flagship phones from the likes of competitors like Apple and Samsung. That means it should run $400 to $500 less than big name phones
The phone also sports a waterproof rating of IPXY, letting it survive a dunk of up to a meter for 30 minutes. This is all due to the phone's Corning Gorilla Glass, which also guards against scratches and dings on the display.
The phone isn't focused quite as heavily on design as, say, the Moto X Style, but users can customize the phone through Motorola's proprietary MotoMaker store, letting users choose their own colors for the front and back.
Motorola also touts an "all-day battery" for the Moto G, as well as a 13 megapixel camera, so you won't have to worry as much about battery life or quality when taking pictures.
The handset goes on sale today from Motorola's site, starting at $179.99 for the 8GB version. It will hit Best Buy in August.
