Hayao Miyazaki Film Collection To Be Released In New Blu-Ray Box Set This November

Everyone has their favorite Hayao Miyazaki movie. Some can't resist the cuteness of 1988's My Neighbor Totoro. Others dig the action and adventure of 2001's Spirited Away. Still other fans find the haunting whimsy of 2004's Howl's Moving Castle completely compelling.

Well, pretty soon you'll be able to have a Miyazaki movie marathon and decide which animated feature really reigns supreme. That's because a new Blu-ray box set featuring a rich variety of films from Miyazaki's career is coming this fall.

The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki will be exclusively available on Amazon starting November 17, Nerdist first reported. The set will include 11 of Miyazaki's films on Blu-ray: Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo and The Wind Rises.

Of course, if you're a diehard Miyazaki fan, you probably already own most – if not all – of these titles on your entertainment medium of choice already. But as with any special Blu-ray or DVD set release these days, this one comes loaded with special features that might just motivate you to shell out the dough. These include the 1972 pilot Yuki no Taiyo (Yuki's Sun) – which Miyazaki storyboarded and animated – three episodes of the 1972 anime series Akado Suzunosuk (Little Samurai), the uncut version of Miyazaki's Retirement Press Conference and a book about the filmmaker's works.

Though the 74-year-old filmmaker announced his retirement last year, Miyazaki still seems to be keeping busy. Earlier this month, he announced that he is directing a CG-animated short for the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. The new 10-minute film, which will be the filmmaker's first using CG animation, is said to feature a hairy caterpillar and will take an estimated three years to finish.
