A newly-surfaced image offers an early first glimpse at the alleged rear casing for the upcoming LG Nexus smartphone expected to debut this fall.
Google teams up with a handset maker each year to launch a new Nexus smartphone. Google collaborated with LG for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 handsets, moved over to Motorola for the Nexus 6, and could now return to LG for a new Nexus smartphone for 2015.
In fact, Google is widely rumored to be planning two Nexus smartphones for this year - one made in collaboration with LG and the other with Huawei. Various reports so far have indicated that the Huawei-made Nexus handset will be larger and higher end, while the LG one will be more compact with a display size of around 5.2 inches.
A new image now offers an early look at an alleged rear casing for the LG Nexus 5 (2015). The image in question comes from tipster @OnLeaks and shows what a case maker sketched up based on an early information. That said, keep in mind that this is not the actual rear of the upcoming LG Nexus 5 (2015).
Nevertheless, the case does make some interesting suggestions. First of all, the three holes in the back could support an intriguing theory. One of them is obviously for the rear camera; the one beside it could be the flash or some other sensor such as Laser Focus, while the one below could be the housing for a fingerprint scanner.
Looking at the sides of this case, the LG Nexus 5 (2015) could have its power button located above the volume rocker. The case further reveals a hole for a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top, as well as a USB port and another hole, likely for the microphone, at the bottom.
In terms of form factor, this case suggests the LG Nexus 5 (2015) could come with a rounded design.
Little else is known at this point as regards this purported Nexus smartphone from LG. Previous rumors have indicated that it could feature a 5.2-inch display, a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, and a 2,700 mAh battery, but it all remains unconfirmed for now. The handset reportedly sports the codename "Bullhead."
The latest leak gives us an early look at what could be in the cards, and nothing is certain just yet. Onleaks has a good track record when it comes to revealing yet-to-be-announced devices, but a hefty dose of skepticism is still advised in regard to all leaks.
