The Nexus by Google has been getting a lot of attention lately with new leaks on the device appearing every now and then on the Internet. The latest leak so far in the Nexus saga reveals a new Huawei-built Nexus is scheduled to launch toward the fourth quarter of the year.
If this is true, it will be the first time that Google is partnering with China-based manufacturer Huawei in producing a Nexus device. Other manufacturers that the company collaborated with in the past include HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Asus.
The leak was announced on Twitter by known tipster @evleaks.
"Huawei Nexus sounds impressive so far: 5.7" QHD w/ metal body, SD820 SoC, fingerprint reader. Ships Q4," tweeted Evan Blass (@evleaks).
Just recently, a Nexus device was leaked in an AnTuTu benchmark test; it was purported to have earned a score of over 85,000 points. The said device has been referred to as the rumored LG Nexus 5 (2015), which is slated to launch in October.
While the Huawei-built Nexus is said to feature a Snapdragon 820 chipset, the LG variant hasn't leaked anything so far in terms of processor type. Initially, it was rumored to sport a Snapdragon 810 SoC. However, the leaked benchmark test suggests that the Nexus 5 (2015) will be equipped with a more powerful processor such as the Snapdragon 820 or the Helio X20 for it to achieve an impressively high score.
@evleaks' mention of a fingerprint scanner in the Huawei-built Nexus is in a way something that is already expected since Android M is designed to have native support for the technology.
The leak elicited a number of comments, with some asking about the device's battery life while some showing confusion on the two Nexus devices.
"Don't need QHD, need 2 day battery life. Huawei knows that, Google doesn't," tweeted tkboxer (@tkboxer)."
"Anything about the new Nexus by LG? Why 2 Nexus this year?," tweeted Alfonso Persico (@fonzope).
"Nexus 6 2015 or Nexus 5 2015? Which is gonna' be Hu[a]wei's?," tweeted Andi - TTM (@AC_TTM).
Other purported specs of the Huawei-built Nexus include a RAM of 4 GB and a display resolution of 2560 x 1440. Since it will have a huge 5.7-inch display, the device could also be referred to as a phablet.
The Huawei-built Nexus is expected to launch side by side with the LG Nexus 5 (2015). If plans push through, Google will be joining the ranks of Apple and Samsung, which are both known to launch at least two devices in the same period.
