The upcoming X-Men spinoff film featuring the explosive card-throwing, bo staff-wielding, southern-fried rogue known as Gambit may be in jeopardy, if this news turns out to be true.
The Wrap is reporting that Gambit star Channing Tatum plans on leaving the film that has long been a passion project.
Why exactly Tatum would want to drop Gambit is unclear. The Wrap said that Tatum's representatives are still in active discussions with 20th Century Fox but that "something is up."
"It is unclear whether Tatum and his producing partner Reid Carolin plan to remain involved in a producing capacity," the story reads.
Tatum recently appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to hype up the film. A few months prior, he sat down with Empire magazine to say Gambit would be challenging some of the tropes seen in superhero films.
"It's always about saving the world, but maybe we're going to shift things a little," Tatum said to the magazine. "There's so many ways you can take [an origin story]. You could do it like Batman Begins, or a different take and go the Guardians Of The Galaxy route. All I can say is, I'm super excited."
Tatum, a Southerner himself, seemed thrilled to bring the Louisiana-born Gambit to life on screen.
"He's kind of a tortured soul and he's not a good guy," Tatum said about Gambit. "But he's not a bad guy, either. He walks his own path. And of course he plays cards and drinks and is a martial-arts badass!"
Gambit is currently slated for an October 7, 2016 release, though that may soon be subject to change.
