Story Trailer Reveals Why Worlds Are Colliding In 'LEGO Dimensions'

In LEGO Dimensions, LEGO enters the toys-to-life genre with a game that combines characters and worlds from across its licensed properties. DC Comics superheroes will play alongside characters from The LEGO Movie, The Lord of the Rings, Jurassic World, Back to the Future, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, The Simpsons, Portal, The Wizard of Oz and more.

Up until now, we've known how the game works, but not why. Why are all of these portals opening all over the multiverse? How is it happening and who's behind it all? Today, Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games have released the first story trailer that explains just what's going on.

Meet Lord Vortech. He lives on an ancient planet at the center of the LEGO Multiverse, but like every good villain, he has aspirations to rule it all. According to TT Games, the developer behind LEGO Dimensions, the lore states that "he who controls the Foundational Elements that [Vortech's] planet is built upon, controls all of the Multiverse."

In his quest for power, Vortech opens portals all over the multiverse and pulls in characters from many different LEGO worlds to aid him. But while the baddies he summons are willing to help, the heroes rebel, joining forces to defeat him.

The story begins when portals begin opening in various LEGO worlds, namely DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, and The Lego Movie. When their friends are sucked through the portals, Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle chase after, following them through. It's not long before they realize what Lord Vortech is up to, but as Vortech's power grows, worlds start getting jumbled up and more and more characters come together from across the multiverse to take him down.

Also, if you've been wondering if the Batman that teams up with Wyldstyle and Gandalf in the game is the same Batman that was Wyldstyle's boyfriend in The LEGO Movie, this trailer holds your answer.

LEGO Dimensions is coming on September 27, 2015 to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
