In honor of San Diego Comic-Con, TT Games has posted a new trailer for LEGO Dimensions that puts the spotlight on Doctor Who.
In addition to confirming the voice talents of Peter Capaldi (the Doctor), Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) and Michelle Gomez (Missy) in the game, the developers revealed some tasty new details about how Doctor Who fits into the all-encompassing world of LEGO Dimensions.
The Doctor makes his LEGO video game debut as a non-playable character in a Doctor Who level that comes with the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack. There, the three characters that come with the Starter Pack — Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf — encounter the Doctor and his TARDIS time machine while facing off against Daleks, Cybermen and more Who baddies.
That's just for starters. What if you want to play as the Doctor? Don't worry.
A Doctor Who Level Pack will also be available when the game launches, which adds a new mission/level to the game. The Pack comes with a playable minifigure of the 12th Doctor, along with two objects you can bring into the game: the TARDIS and K-9, the Doctor's robot dog that infrequently appears on the show. A Fun Pack (Dimensions' equivalent of individual characters you can buy) will also be available that comes with a playable Cyberman minifigure and a Dalek, which functions as an in-game object.
Here's the best part, the bit that Doctor Who fans will geek out over big time. When you play as the Doctor and he dies in the game, he doesn't just pop back up as the 12th Doctor. He regenerates into the first Doctor and continues to regenerate with each death, cycling back up to the 12th Doctor. That's right: you get to play as all 12 Doctors in the game (we're guessing the other Doctors have dialogue recorded by sound-alikes).
When the Doctor regenerates, the interior of the TARDIS changes to match. So, early-era Doctors will have the old control room with the "round white things" on the walls, the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) will have the darker, dome-shaped interior and 11 (Matt Smith) will use the asymmetrical, steampunk-influenced one fans remember him for. Nifty, eh? A jukebox inside the TARDIS will let players choose from the many versions of the show's theme music to listen to.
LEGO Dimensions unites characters and settings from across more than a dozen licensed properties, including DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic World, The Lego Movie, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Portal, Scooby Doo, The Simpsons, The Wizard of Oz, Ninjago and more.
September 29, 2015 can't get here soon enough. LEGO Dimensions will be available that day for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
