Times are a changing, and the video game industry is changing with it. There was a time when playing video game was all about the controller and the TV screen, but fast forward into the future, we now have to accommodate another screen.
EA has released the official Titanfall companion app for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows 8. The app is designed to give gamers a second screen experience where they can view their stats, map features and basically anything that gamers can already view on their main screen.
Interestingly enough, EA and Respawn chose to create their own app rather than work with Microsoft's SmartGlass. We're guessing many of the features implemented are probably not supported by Microsoft, or maybe EA just wanted full control.
"Enhance your Titanfall experience with the Titanfall Companion App. Provides you with notifications for all of the latest info and updates to Titanfall," says EA. "Features rich Intel about the history of the Titanfall universe, characters, weapons, maps, modes and controls. Now review your stats from anywhere including total kills, favorite weapons, time spent playing and more."
Some might find out that the app is not that useful. Chances are EA and Respawn didn't look through enough before creating this companion app. Titanfall is a fast-paced game, which means players won't have enough time to lose focus just to look at an app. So for the hardcore player, the Titanfall companion app is not a necessity.
However, it becomes useful if a player have someone else in the room. While they are playing, this other person could be the wingman. Imagine having someone alerting the player of an opponent coming down to break his neck, or keeping him up to speed with match statistics while playing.
If for some reason the Titanfall companion app should excite players, bear in mind that the size of the thing is over 600 megabyte. Surprise, surprise, bet they weren't expecting that.
We are still in shock, as we are not seeing why this app needs to be this large. The folks at EA have been very lax since Battlefield 4, this is just one other blunder to add to the pile.
