When Thunder Levin, the screenwriter for all three Sharknado movies, spoke about his ideas for a fourth film in the franchise in a recent interview with T-Lounge, he didn't want to get ahead of himself.
"Just in the last few days, we've been sort of just batting some ideas back and forth," Levin told T-Lounge. "But, you know, we have to see if the audience wants it. We'll see how the third one does. There's every indication that it will be successful. People are certainly talking about it. But I wouldn't want to pre-suppose anything. We'll wait and see."
Well, it looks like someone wanted another Sharknado movie because Syfy has already announced that there will indeed be a fourth installment of this franchise. In fact, Sharknado 4 was a big part of Wednesday night's Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! premiere. There are major spoilers ahead for those that didn't catch that flick.
Sharknado 3 ended with a cliffhanger the size of a great white shark. Some space debris came crashing down on April and then the screen faded to black, so it's unclear if the lead character, played by Tara Reid in all three films, will return to see another Sharknado.
That's where you come in. Immediately following the Sharknado 3 premiere, Syfy asked fans to vote on whether or not April survives in Sharknado 4. Fans can vote using the to-the-point hashtags #AprilLives or #AprilDies on Twitter or by going to Syfy's website to cast your vote.
As for the plot — if you can really call it that — of Sharknado 4, we'll just have to wait until we get closer to the film's premiere date, which will likely be in summer 2016, to see what this fourth installment is all about. However, Levin did reveal to T-Lounge some of what he would like to see in the franchise in the future when we spoke to him last week, such as a cameo from Bill Murray and an international setting. Anthony C. Ferrante, the franchise's director, also told Variety that those are his hopes for Sharknado 4 in an interview published Wednesday, although the Murray cameo is more of a dream scenario, as it is for Levin.
But hey, crazier things have happened. This is Sharknado we're talking about.
