What Does Bryan Singer's Destroyed Cairo Set Photo Mean For 'X-Men: Apocalyspe?'

Director Bryan Singer is no stranger to posting X-Men: Apocalypse teasers on social media. From behind-the-scenes glimpses at the film's sets to gorgeous concept art, Singer has posted it all.

He has done so once again with his latest Instagram post. In the image below, we see Singer taking a stroll through the set of a destroyed Cairo in the upcoming film.

There is plenty of information about the film we can draw from this. First, it looks like Cairo is going to be a little worse for wear after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. That the film will at least partially take place in the Egyptian capital makes perfect sense. The original, super-powered mutant known as Apocalypse was born as an ancient Egyptian and has ties to the region. That may explain why the set is in ruins.

Cairo is also the home of Storm, where she grows up on the streets as an orphan. The film looks like it will at least partially be an origin story for the longtime member of the X-Men. In the comics, she is saved by Professor X and inducted into the X-Men, but it looks like in the film, Apocalypse will find her first. She will join Psylocke, Angel and Magento as Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, destined to destroy the world.

Unless the other X-Men can stop them, of course. That's where Cyclops, Jean Gray, Nightcrawler and the rest of the team of young mutants come into play. Singer already released concept art of Cyclops battling it out with Storm amidst the ruins of a city, hinting at a showdown between the two characters. Could the location of the battle be Cairo?

It's difficult to say, but it looks like some serious destruction goes down in Egypt. X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters May 27, 2016. You can check out our best look at the film's characters here.
