Olivia Munn Shows She’s Ready To Play Psylocke With Her New Sword Skills [Video]

When "X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer announced that Olivia Munn was joining the cast of mutant to play Psylocke, not everybody was convinced.

But the former "Newsroom" actress is not about to back off and is showing her fans just how dedicated she is to portray the purple-blade wielding British mutant in the upcoming 1980s'-themed X-Men film.

Munn has posted a new Instagram video showing off her brand new sword skills she acquired while preparing for her new role.

"Learned some new tricks..." the actress said.

The video shows the actress swiftly and deftly brandishing her sword, while her boyfriend, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers dressed down in a white shirt, shorts and socks, attempts to steal the limelight with some funny video-bombing skills. For all his prowess on the football field, Rodgers isn't as good handling a wooden sword.

Singer, who has taken to Instagram and Twitter to drop little bits and pieces of exciting news about the upcoming X-Men movie, announced in April that Munn had been chosen to play the part of Psylocke, a British psychic ninja whose real name is Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock.

Like many of the mutants in the X-Men universe, Psylocke has a complicated history, originally starting out as a supporting character in the adventures of her twin brother, Captain Britain, before being implanted into the body of Kwannon, a Japanese female ninja, and adopting many of Kwannon's skills in martial arts. Psylocke went on to become a mutant in 1986, but only appeared briefly in one of the films, "X-Men: The Last Stand," in 2006, where she was played by French-Chinese actress Meiling Melançon

Munn will be joining a cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Michael Fassbender as Magneto, shutting down rumors that Sir Ian McKellen was reprising the role he played in four earlier X-Men films.

Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman is also rumored to join the cast after a leather goods designer posted on Instagram that it was designing a special duffle bag for the actor "who is filming the new X-Men movie in Montreal." The post has since been taken down, and neither Jackman nor 20th Century Fox has confirmed if the rumor was true.
