New 'Assassin's Creed Syndicate' Gameplay Shows Off Group Finishers, Runaway Carriages And More

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is bringing a number of new features to the franchise for the first time. From a grapple hook to the ability to hijack horse-drawn carriages, we've seen many of these new abilities in action since the game's announcement earlier this year.

There are, however, plenty of smaller features and details gamers might have missed. That's what this latest video from the UbiCentral focuses on. It takes the game's E3 demo and highlights new additions to the gameplay that didn't make it into the game's big showing at Ubisoft's press conference.

Like group finishers, for starters. As shown in the video, if a player can manage to severely wound a large group of enemies without actually killing them, they will then be able to finish all of the bad guys at once in a cinematic flurry.

Ubisoft has made a big deal out of the game's horse-drawn carriages as well. They offer players another method of transportation outside of the franchise's tried and true rooftop parkour for the first time, so of course the publisher wants to talk about them. What you might not know is that the horses pulling the carriages can be manipulated to your benefit ... and by manipulated, we of course mean maimed or killed.

Shooting a horse once will cause the animal to race uncontrollably down the street. Shoot the animal twice and it will die, causing the carriage to crash and creating a handy roadblock to any other enemies in pursuit. It's cruel, but there is no denying killing the horse looks to be effective.

The video dives into a number of smaller details as well. Players can hide, then unhide, dead bodies if they so desire, as well as use throwing knives to lure enemies into traps. In the game's E3 demo, players watched as the player character chased down a Templar by the name Bloody Nora, only to then run into her gang. Ubisoft shows in this video that it's actually possible to catch Nora before she reaches her comrades. Though players will still have to fight her gang anyway, it is cool to see that Nora's escape isn't predetermined.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Oct. 23.
