Watch An Hour Of Brand-New 'Assassin's Creed Syndicate' Footage

For the most part, developers are pretty shy when it comes to showing off unfinished games. There are a million different things that can go wrong when debuting unfinished footage, and that's why most gameplay demos are so short: it minimizes the chances of something glitching out or crashing, and developers are able to show exactly what they want while the game is still being made.

That's why this latest Assassin's Creed Syndicate preview is so strange. Instead of showing a tightly scripted demo of a couple different sections of the game, Ubisoft teamed up with the folks over at Yogscast and released an entire hour's worth of footage.

No joke: this isn't a repeat of the 10-minute pre-E3 demo that fans were treated to earlier this year. Everything from stagecoaches to the grappling hook to good old-fashioned infiltration is on display - if you were looking for an uncut look at the latest Assassin's Creed game, you're in luck.

While it's hard to complain about seeing so much new footage, this latest Assassin's Creed Syndicate preview is vastly different from anything else like it. Even an hour-long video on launch day isn't all that common, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate still has months to go before it hits store shelves.

It goes to show how confident Ubisoft is in its redesigned engine: Assassin's Creed Unity glitched out on a regular basis on Day One, though Syndicate doesn't seem to have any such trouble, despite the fact that it's not even done yet. At this point, it's impossible to tell if the story and characters will measure up - but from the looks of things, the tech itself already seems like a major improvement.

With any luck, Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be the next-gen open-world assassination extravaganza that fans have been waiting for. Thankfully, it won't be long before fans know for sure: Assassin's Creed Syndicate is due out on Oct. 23.
