Star NFL Player Locks Himself In Hot Car To Simulate How Dogs Feel When Overheating

How long can an NFL player tough it out in a car under sizzling 90-degree weather?

That's the premise of PETA's new video, which locked Arizona Cardinals star safety Tyrann Mathieu in a baking-hot car to show what dogs or other pets must feel like if left in a vehicle under the summer sun.

With the sun beating down on an SUV positioned in an empty parking lot, Mathieu steps foot into the passenger side of the vehicle and immediately begins feeling the heat.

"Jesus Christ," the 23-year-old star safety says, fanning himself furiously, trying to bring some cool air to his face.

Within two minutes, the temperature inside the vehicle rises to 97 degrees.

"This is ultimately what it feels like to be a dog trapped inside of a car on a hot day, while their owner is probably in a grocery store. So, their dog has to sit in a car and literally overheat," Mathieu says to himself, with PETA's cameras rolling.

Two minutes later at the four-minute mark, the temperature hits 105 degrees inside the car, as Mathieu feverishly fans himself with the bottom of his T-shirt.

"I seriously couldn't imagine leaving my dog in a car like this," he says, dripping in sweat. "If you're gonna make a dog part of your family, then make him part of your family. Don't treat him like you wouldn't treat someone you cared about or someone you loved. I can't wait to get out of this car."

At the six-minute mark and a sizzling 113 degrees later, Mathieu is struggling, the look on his face clearly saying it all.

Dazed, tired, beat up and confused...Mathieu finally can't take it any more and rushes out the vehicle at the eight-minute, 120-degree mark. Sheesh!

If an NFL player in prime physical condition as Mathieu can't take the heat, imagine a dog. PETA partnering with the star safety showed that at least Mathieu could open the door and let himself out the vehicle...dogs can't. So, any owners thinking about leaving their pets inside a baking-hot car, should think twice.
