Pacific Rim made a name for itself with it's impressive visuals and massive monster vs. mech battles. Though it will be a while before we see the sequel, Legendary Pictures doesn't want fans to forget what makes the film and soon to be franchise such a blast.
Enter Pacific Rim: Jaeger Pilot. It's a virtual reality experience that Legendary brought to San Diego Comic Con which puts fans into the cockpit of one of the film's massive Jaeger mechs.
To call it cool is an understatement, but not to worry. If you didn't make it to the convention, Legendary has now released the full, 360 degree video on YouTube for fans everywhere to enjoy. The short puts viewers in the helmet of a Jaeger pilot. You can use your mouse to look around the inside of the Jaeger cockpit, just in time for the kaiju known as Knifehead to rise from the depths of the ocean and attack your mech.
All the while Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam coaches you through the process. Until he gets ripped out of the cockpit by Knifehead, at least. Sparks fly as Knifehead prepares to make the killing blow, while rain pours into the cockpit from outside. Then the simulation ends, telling viewers that Jaeger pilot recruitment begins in 2017.
This isn't the first VR experience Legendary has released for the public. The studio released a Warcraft VR experience on YouTube earlier this week that allows users to take a tour of one of the film's iconic locations from atop the back of a gryphon.
This Pacific Rim short isn't much, but hopefully it will help hold fans over until the Pacific Rim animated series set to debut next year. Pacific Rim 2 is slated for release in the summer of 2017.
